Managing software costs is a balancing act for every growing business. As companies gear up for Odoo 20, navigating license costs efficiently becomes crucial. With multi-year contract renewals adjusting from introductory promotional rates and periodic regional pricing shifts—often amounting to effective 20% to 25% cost increases upon renewal—implementing a proactive optimization strategy is essential.

Understanding how Odoo’s subscription model works—and where license bloat occurs—can help you optimize your annual contract before your next renewal cycle.

1. Why Odoo Costs Creep Up (The “20% Jump”)

Many organizations experience a price bump when transitioning past their initial contract. Understanding why this happens helps prevent budget surprises:

  • End of First-Year Promotional Discounts: Odoo typically offers a ~20% to 25% first-year introductory discount for new users. When your contract renews into year two, pricing automatically adjusts to the standard list rate.
  • Monthly vs. Annual Billing: Billed monthly? You pay roughly 20% to 25% more per user compared to committing to an annual or multi-year subscription contract.
  • User Count Expansion: Adding unmonitored internal accounts throughout the year leads to sudden tier jumps upon invoice renewal.

2. Tactical Steps to Optimize Your Odoo ERP Pricing

Audit Your Active Users (Internal vs. Portal)

Odoo charges per internal user (users who log into backend menus to create or edit records). External users, vendor portals, and customer portal logins are 100% free.

  • Action: Audit your user list. Downgrade inactive staff, warehouse operators who only view status updates, or external contractors to Portal Access.

Evaluate Standard vs. Custom Plan Needs

The Standard Plan covers all core Odoo apps on Odoo Online. The Custom Plan is higher per user/month and is required only if you use Odoo Studio, run multi-company databases, utilize external APIs, or host on Odoo.sh / On-Premise.

  • Action: If you are paying for the Custom Plan strictly for minor modifications, consider refactoring your setup to run on native configurations or community modules.

Lock In Multi-Year Rates Before Version Upgrades

If you are planning to upgrade to Odoo 20, lock in your user licensing on multi-year agreements prior to system migrations. Locking in 3-to-5-year contracts shields your business against annual rate increases and locks in baseline user discounts.

Utilize the Odoo Community Association (OCA) Ecosystem

For functions where Odoo Enterprise requires extra license tiers or proprietary apps, leverage open-source OCA modules on Community deployments to reduce dependency on high-tier proprietary add-ons.

3. How Mediod Consulting Helps You Optimize

At Mediod Consulting, we perform license and architecture audits to ensure you pay only for what you use:

  1. User & Permission Audits: Reclassifying backend licenses to free Portal access.
  2. Infrastructure Optimization: Right-sizing your Odoo.sh or self-hosted deployment to prevent resource waste.
  3. Contract Negotiation: Assisting during annual renewal windows to secure maximum contractual discounts.

Odoo raised the Custom plan by 20–31% depending on the country (USA $61.00, Germany €44.90, Pakistan $13.40 per user/month); Standard is unchanged. See Odoo price increase 2026: what to consider.

Note: this post describes a pricing restructuring Odoo announced back at Odoo Experience 2022. The specific figures below reflect that announcement at the time — for current Odoo pricing, check odoo.com directly or contact Mediod Consulting for an up-to-date quote.

At Odoo Experience 2022, Odoo reworked its pricing structure to make it simpler and more accessible. It was a bold move for the company, but a reasonable one. Here’s the reasoning behind it.

How Odoo Restructured Its Pricing

Why did Odoo update its pricing?

Odoo’s stated goal is to give businesses easy access to the software they need to run and grow — including smaller companies with limited budgets. With every version, Odoo kept making its suite of business applications stronger, smarter, and faster, with new apps, features, and improved services. One piece was still missing: the pricing itself needed an update too.

What does optimal pricing look like?

Good pricing should line up with the value a customer actually gets from a product. By that measure, Odoo was worth relatively less to a single user than to a larger company with more complex needs and hundreds or thousands of users.

A smaller company can get by managing most of its business with less data integration and several disconnected applications. A larger company, on the other hand, can’t sustain its growth — or even function well — without automation and seamless application integration. So the logical pricing approach would scale the price level with the number of users a company has.

Odoo’s previous pricing structure actually worked the opposite way. On top of a per-user cost, there was also a cost for each application installed on the database.

In Europe, for example, single-user companies had an average monthly cost of €96. Meanwhile, 100-user companies had their per-application cost spread across those users, bringing their average monthly cost per user down to €20.

That old pricing structure was clearly far from optimal. Two problems stood out: there was a shortage of customers in the 1-5 user segment, and there was too little revenue from larger companies.

What’s the ideal price?

Once Odoo knew it needed to change the pricing, another question came up: how could the pricing be simplified even further? (Let’s be honest — the old structure wasn’t the easiest to understand.)

The simplest possible pricing formula, in short: one price, all applications.

That part was an easy call. The real question was what the right price actually was.

To figure that out, Odoo looked at competitor pricing to understand its own real value, starting with Microsoft Dynamics 365. But there was a catch: Odoo is much more than just an ERP — it’s also a CRM, Point of Sale, eCommerce platform, eSignature tool, HR system, and more. So Odoo added up what it would cost to piece together the equivalent from competitors, and here’s what that looked like:

ERP
Microsoft Dynamics 365$180 /user
CRMSalesforce (Sales Cloud)$75 /user
Point of SaleLightspeed$119 /user
eCommerceShopify$79 /user + 3%
eSignDocuSign$25 /user
HRBambooHR$6 /employee
Total$484 /user

And that’s not even the full range of Odoo applications — yet the equivalent value already added up to roughly $484/user/month across competitors. That figure doesn’t even include the cost of integrating all those separate tools together.

Simplifying to a single price was clearly the smart move. But Odoo also wanted to make itself far more accessible, to keep helping businesses of every size grow. So instead of pricing near that $484/user/month competitor-equivalent value, Odoo went the opposite direction:

Under €20/user/month for access to every Odoo application.

The New Pricing Plans

Under the new structure, every Odoo application is available at the price of a single one. The new pricing plans also include unlimited support, cloud hosting on Odoo Online, and maintenance.

There are two pricing plans covering every need: Standard and Custom. To lower the barrier to entry even further, Odoo also introduced a discount for the first year (or first few years, for multi-year agreements).

The One App Free Plan

Not exactly a pricing plan in the traditional sense (free isn’t a “price,” after all), the One App Free plan is still a popular option. It lets users access one application, free, on a database hosted in the cloud on Odoo Online, for an unlimited number of users, indefinitely.

Need full-featured accounting software? Free, unlimited users, indefinitely. Need a website, or an eCommerce setup? Free as well. Need Point of Sale for your shop? Also free, unless you install additional applications.

The Standard Plan

The Standard plan is the best fit for most businesses that don’t need custom development. With this plan, you get a standard database hosted in the cloud on Odoo Online, and you can install as many Odoo applications as you need. Pricing stays the same whether you install three apps or seventy — a flat cost per user, per month.

The Custom Plan

The Custom plan is best suited for businesses that need to manage multiple companies on a single database, or that need to customize their Odoo database with Odoo Studio, custom development (available only for databases hosted on Odoo.sh or On-Premise), or through the API.

What did this change mean for existing customers?

For most existing customers, this pricing change meant a cheaper subscription and access to every Odoo application instead of just a few — with the lower cost applied at their next subscription renewal. Good news across the board.

For most existing customers, this pricing change meant a cheaper subscription and access to every Odoo application instead of just a few — with the lower cost applied at their next subscription renewal. Good news across the board.

For the customers where this change would have meant a higher price, Odoo had good news for them too: they kept their existing cost. Their subscription moved to the new pricing model — giving them access to every Odoo application — but at a discount, so the cost of their subscription didn’t increase for their existing number of users.

Pricing details change over time, so don’t rely on the numbers above for a current quote. See our Odoo Subscription & Licensing Guidance for a current breakdown, or contact Mediod Consulting directly — mentioning us gets you a 22% discount on your Odoo subscription.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Odoo pricing still one price for all applications?

Yes — the core structure described here (Standard and Custom plans, each giving access to the full app catalog for one per-user price) is still how Odoo prices Enterprise today. Exact rates change periodically, so always confirm current pricing before budgeting.

What’s the difference between the Standard and Custom plans?

Standard covers most businesses running a single company on Odoo Online. Custom adds multi-company support, Odoo Studio, and API/custom-development access — typically needed once a business outgrows out-of-the-box configuration.

Is the One App Free plan still available?

Yes — it remains a popular way to try a single Odoo app (like Accounting or CRM) for free, with unlimited users, indefinitely, before committing to a paid plan.

Odoo has raised the Custom plan in Pakistan from $10.80 to $13.40 per user/month (yearly billing); Standard stays at $7.25. Details and rupee costs: Odoo price increase in Pakistan.

Thinking about using Odoo for your business? The first question everyone asks is: “How much does it cost?”

Here’s the simple answer, without the confusing jargon — including the actual pricing you’ll get from Mediod Consulting, an official Odoo Silver Partner in Pakistan.

The Quick Answer

Odoo has two costs, not one:

  1. The software fee — what you pay monthly to use Odoo
  2. The setup cost — what you pay to have it installed, configured, and customized for your business

Most people only see the first number online. But the second one is usually bigger — and it’s the one that actually matters for your budget.

1. The Software Fee (Monthly Cost)

As an official Odoo Silver Partner, Mediod Consulting sells Odoo licenses at Odoo’s standard published price for Pakistan — we don’t mark it up. On top of that:

Get 22% off your Odoo subscription: sign up through Mediod’s Odoo partner link and email info@mediodconsulting.com (before or after you purchase).

Disclosure: Mediod Consulting is an official Odoo Silver Partner. Links marked as partner links may earn us a commission at no extra cost to you.

PlanWhat it includesOdoo price (per user/month, yearly billing)Your price with Mediod (22% off)
Free Plan1 app only, unlimited users$0$0
Standard PlanAll core apps (Sales, Inventory, Accounting, HR, etc.)$7.25≈ $5.66
Custom PlanEverything in Standard, plus more control and features$13.40≈ $10.45
Community (Free) VersionFree software, self-hosted$0$0 (setup/hosting still needed)

In simple terms: for a 10-person team on the Standard plan, you’d normally pay $72.50/month (roughly PKR 20,300). With Mediod’s 22% partner discount, that comes down to about $56.55/month (≈ PKR 15,800).

2. The Setup Cost (One-Time Cost)

This is the part most websites don’t tell you about — and it’s usually the bigger expense.

When you buy Odoo, you don’t get a system that already works for your business. Someone has to:

  • Set it up to match how your business actually works
  • Move your old data (customers, products, invoices) into it
  • Connect it to your bank, online store, or FBR e-invoicing
  • Train your team to use it
  • Support you after launch

This is called “implementation,” and it’s a one-time project fee, separate from the monthly software fee.

Rough cost for a small-to-medium business in Pakistan: PKR 300,000 to PKR 3,000,000+, depending on how many apps you need and how customized it has to be. We scope every project individually and give you a fixed quote before starting — no surprise bills.

What makes this cost go up or down?

  • How many apps you use — just Sales and Inventory is cheaper than a full setup with Accounting, HR, and Manufacturing
  • How messy your old data is — clean spreadsheets are cheap to move; years of messy Excel files take longer
  • How custom you want it — standard setup is cheap; custom reports and workflows cost more
  • FBR compliance — e-invoicing and tax rules for Pakistan add some scope but are essential
  • Free vs. paid version — Community has no license fee but usually needs more developer work

3. Ongoing Customization & Support: Simple Monthly Pricing

Once you’re live on Odoo, most businesses still need occasional tweaks — a new report, a custom field, a workflow change, a bug fix. Instead of billing you per hour with unpredictable invoices, Mediod Consulting offers a simple flat-rate retainer:

PKR 50,000 per month for 15 hours of customization and support work.

That covers things like:

  • Custom fields, views, and reports
  • Workflow and automation tweaks
  • Minor integrations and bug fixes
  • General “how do I do X in Odoo” support for your team

If you don’t need ongoing changes, you’re not locked into this — it’s optional and only makes sense once you’re past initial implementation and want a predictable support budget instead of ad-hoc quotes.

Free vs. Paid: Which One Should You Pick?

Free (Community)Paid (Enterprise)
Monthly software costNone$7.25–$13.40 per user (22% off via Mediod)
Where it’s hostedYou manage your own serverOdoo hosts it for you
Easy customization toolsNoYes (Odoo Studio)
Official supportNoYes
Best forVery small teams with a developer on handMost growing businesses

Simple rule of thumb: if you don’t have a developer on your team already, the paid version is usually cheaper in the long run — because you’re not paying someone to rebuild features Odoo already gives you for free with Enterprise.

A Simple Real-World Example

Let’s say you run a distribution business in Lahore with 12 employees, currently using Excel.

  • Software (annual, via Mediod): 12 users on the Custom plan, $13.40/user/month less the 22% Mediod discount ≈ ~$125/month (~PKR 35,100/month)
  • Setup (one-time): Sales, Inventory, Accounting, FBR e-invoicing, data migration, training ≈ PKR 800,000 – 1,500,000
  • Ongoing support (optional): PKR 50,000/month for 15 hours of customization if needed after go-live

This is just an example to give you a feel for it — your actual cost depends on your business. We’ll give you an exact number after a short scoping call.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Odoo free in Pakistan?

Part of it is. You can use one app for free forever, or use the fully free Community version if you host it yourself. Most businesses that want the full toolkit (Sales, Accounting, HR, etc. all in one place) go with the paid Enterprise plan.

How much does Odoo cost per person in Pakistan?

$7.25 (Standard) or $13.40 (Custom) per user per month on yearly billing. Through Mediod Consulting, an official Odoo Silver Partner, you get 22% off your Odoo subscription when you sign up through our partner link.

Does Mediod Consulting mark up the Odoo license price?

No. As an official Odoo Silver Partner, we sell licenses at Odoo’s standard published rate for Pakistan, and you get 22% off your subscription when you sign up through our partner link and email info@mediodconsulting.com.

How much does ongoing customization or support cost after Odoo is set up?

Mediod offers a flat-rate retainer of PKR 50,000 per month for 15 hours of customization and support work — a predictable monthly cost instead of unpredictable hourly billing.

Why is the setup so much more expensive than the monthly fee?

Because the monthly fee only pays for the software itself. Someone still needs to configure it, move your data, connect it to your other tools, and train your staff — that’s real project work.

Should I get the free version or pay for Enterprise?

If you have a developer already, free (Community) can work. If you don’t, Enterprise is usually cheaper overall, since you’re not paying extra to rebuild features Odoo already includes.

How do I get an exact price for my business?

Talk to Mediod Consulting. As an official Odoo Silver Partner in Pakistan, we’ll ask about your team size, the apps needed, and any special requirements like FBR e-invoicing, then give you a real, fixed quote — plus your 22% partner discount.

Odoo has raised the price of its Custom plan in Pakistan from $10.80 to $13.40 per user per month on yearly billing — about 24% more. The Standard plan is still $7.25 and One App Free is still $0. If you run Odoo Studio, more than one company, integrations or Odoo.sh, the change will show up on your next invoice.

Key takeaways

  • Custom (yearly): $13.40 per user/month, up from $10.80 (+24.1%).
  • Standard (yearly): $7.25 per user/month — unchanged for now.
  • One App Free: $0 for a single app with unlimited users.
  • Odoo bills Pakistan in US dollars, so the rupee exchange rate affects what you actually pay.

What it costs in rupees

At an indicative rate of about PKR 280 to the US dollar (your bank’s card rate and charges will differ), yearly list prices work out as follows:

Users on Custom (yearly)BeforeNowExtra per year
5 users$648 (≈ PKR 181,000)$804 (≈ PKR 225,000)+$156 (≈ PKR 44,000)
10 users$1,296 (≈ PKR 363,000)$1,608 (≈ PKR 450,000)+$312 (≈ PKR 87,000)
25 users$3,240 (≈ PKR 907,000)$4,020 (≈ PKR 1,126,000)+$780 (≈ PKR 218,000)
Annual Odoo Custom plan licences for Pakistani businesses (USD and indicative PKR)

For comparison, 10 users on Standard cost $870 a year (≈ PKR 244,000). Custom is now almost 1.85× the price of Standard per user, so choosing the right plan is the biggest saving available.

Which Pakistani businesses are affected

You pay the Custom price if your database uses any of these:

  • Odoo Studio — installing it moves the database to Custom automatically.
  • Multi-company — for example a trading company and a manufacturing unit in one database, or separate entities in Lahore and Karachi.
  • The external API or custom modules — for example custom connectors for couriers, payment gateways, marketplaces or older FBR digital-invoicing setups.
  • Odoo.sh or on-premise hosting.

Good news for FBR compliance: Odoo 20 adds FBR e-invoicing to the standard Pakistan localization and real-time FBR reporting for Point of Sale, which is mandatory for Tier-1 retailers. That can remove the need for a custom connector — and for some businesses, the need for the Custom plan.

Textile, wholesale and distribution businesses in Pakistan often need at least one of these. See how Odoo fits textile manufacturing and wholesale and retail.

Five ways to control your Odoo cost in Pakistan

  1. Stay on Standard where you can. If Studio was installed for a few fields, or a second company is no longer used, moving back to Standard cuts the per-user price from $13.40 to $7.25.
  2. Audit users. Customers and vendors on the portal are free; staff who only need leave, attendance or expenses may qualify for the new Light User licence.
  3. Pay yearly. Monthly billing costs more per user than yearly billing.
  4. Plan for the exchange rate. Odoo bills in US dollars; paying yearly locks in the dollar amount for the year.
  5. Buy through a local partner. Mediod’s partner discount applies to your Odoo subscription, and support is in your time zone.

Mediod has offices in Multan and serves clients in Lahore and across Pakistan — see Odoo services in Multan and Odoo services in Lahore. For a full budget including implementation, read our Odoo pricing in Pakistan guide and the Odoo implementation cost guide. US readers can see the Odoo price increase in the USA.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Odoo price in Pakistan in 2026?

On yearly billing, Odoo Standard is $7.25 per user per month and Odoo Custom is $13.40 per user per month. One App Free is $0 for a single app with unlimited users.

How much did Odoo increase prices in Pakistan?

The Custom plan rose from $10.80 to $13.40 per user per month on yearly billing, about 24%. The Standard plan stayed at $7.25.

Is Odoo billed in rupees or dollars in Pakistan?

Odoo shows and bills Pakistan prices in US dollars, so the rupee amount depends on the exchange rate and your bank’s card charges.

Do I need the Custom plan for FBR e-invoicing in Odoo?

Not necessarily. Odoo 20 adds an FBR e-invoicing integration to the standard Pakistan localization (S.R.O. 1852(I)/2025) and an FBR integration for Point of Sale, so a custom connector is no longer the only route. On older versions, FBR connectors were usually custom modules, which need Odoo.sh or on-premise hosting and therefore the Custom plan.

Is Odoo Community free in Pakistan?

Odoo Community has no licence fee, but you pay for hosting, maintenance and any development yourself, and you do not get Studio, Enterprise-only apps or Odoo’s official support.

Odoo has raised the price of its Custom plan in the United States from $46.70 to $61.00 per user per month on yearly billing — an increase of 30.6%. The Standard plan stays at $31.10, and One App Free is still $0. Here is what changed, what it costs a US team, and how to decide which plan you actually need.

Key takeaways

  • Custom (yearly): $61.00 list, $49.00 for new users in year one (was $46.70 / $37.40).
  • Custom (monthly): $76.20 list, $61.10 in year one (was $58.40 / $46.80).
  • Standard is unchanged: $31.10 yearly ($24.90 in year one), $38.90 monthly.
  • The new US price has been on odoo.com since early January 2026; the Custom plan now also lists “Agentic AI”.

The same 25-person team on Standard pays $9,330 a year at list price. Custom now costs almost twice as much per user as Standard ($61.00 vs $31.10), so the plan decision is worth more than any other licence saving.

Do you need the Custom plan?

Custom is required if any of these apply — otherwise Standard on Odoo Online covers all Odoo apps:

  • Odoo Studio — installing it switches the database to Custom automatically.
  • More than one company — common for US groups with several LLCs or a holding structure.
  • The external API — needed for most integrations with tools such as Shopify, WooCommerce or a custom app.
  • Custom modules, Odoo.sh or on-premise hosting.

If only one of these applies, ask whether there is a standard-feature alternative. For example, a one-off data sync might be handled with import templates, and a few extra fields may not justify Studio. If you need several, Custom is still good value compared with most US ERP suites — see Odoo vs NetSuite.

How US companies can soften the increase

  1. Audit users before renewal. Remove leavers, move view-only staff to portal access, and use Light User for employees who only need HR self-service.
  2. Stay on yearly billing. Monthly Custom is $76.20 vs $61.00 yearly — about 25% more.
  3. Check your renewal quote early. Existing subscribers typically move to new prices at renewal, and the first-year discount ends after 12 months.
  4. Consolidate companies where the business allows. Separate entities often need multi-company; dormant ones may not.
  5. Buy through a partner. Mediod’s partner discount (below) applies to your Odoo subscription.

Mediod Consulting LLC is registered in Sheridan, Wyoming, and our Odoo services in the USA cover implementation, integrations and support across US time zones. If you are comparing partners, read how to choose an Odoo implementation partner in the USA.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much is Odoo per user in the USA in 2026?

On yearly billing, Odoo Standard is $31.10 per user/month ($24.90 in year one for new users) and Odoo Custom is $61.00 ($49.00 in year one). Monthly billing is $38.90 for Standard and $76.20 for Custom. One App Free is $0.

How much did the Odoo Custom plan go up in the USA?

From $46.70 to $61.00 per user/month on yearly billing, an increase of about 31%. The first-year price rose from $37.40 to $49.00.

Did the Odoo Standard plan price change in the USA?

No. Standard has stayed at $31.10 per user/month on yearly billing ($24.90 in year one) and $38.90 on monthly billing.

Does the Odoo price increase affect my existing subscription?

Existing subscribers typically see new prices when the subscription renews, not mid-term. Check your renewal date and confirm the figure on your renewal quotation from Odoo or your partner.

Is Odoo still cheaper than other ERP systems after the increase?

For most small and mid-sized US businesses, yes — the Custom plan includes every Odoo app for one per-user price, while suites such as NetSuite or Dynamics charge per module plus implementation. Compare total cost, not just licences.

Sources: odoo.com/pricing checked on 24 September 2026; earlier prices from archived copies of the same page on the Internet Archive (US, 8 Dec 2025) and (euro, 3 Jan 2026). Odoo sets prices per country and can change them at any time — always confirm the figure on your own quotation.

Odoo has raised the price of its Custom plan — the plan you need for Odoo Studio, multi-company, the external API, Odoo.sh or on-premise hosting. Depending on the country, the yearly list price has gone up by 20% to 31%. The Standard plan has not changed in the markets we checked, and One App Free is still $0/€0.

The timing matters: Odoo 20 was unveiled at Odoo Experience 2026 this week, and the Custom plan card on odoo.com now lists “Odoo Studio / Agentic AI” alongside a new Light User licence. Below is what changed in the USA, Germany and Pakistan, what it costs a typical team, and what to check before your next renewal.

Key takeaways

  • USA: Custom $46.70 → $61.00 per user/month billed yearly (+31%). Standard unchanged at $31.10.
  • Germany (euro): Custom €37.40 → €44.90 (+20%). Standard unchanged at €24.90. New Light User at €7.90.
  • Pakistan: Custom $10.80 → $13.40 (+24%). Standard still $7.25.
  • First-year discounts still apply to new users for 12 months — budget for the list price from year two.

Odoo Custom and Standard plan prices before and after the 2026 increase (yearly billing, per user per month)

Monthly billing costs more: in the USA the Custom list price is now $76.20 per user/month (was $58.40), and in Germany €56.90 (was €46.80). Standard monthly list prices are unchanged at $38.90 and €31.10.

What changed on the odoo.com pricing page

odoo.com/pricing for Germany, 24 September 2026: Custom now €44.90 list (€35.90 in year one) with “Odoo Studio / Agentic AI”.

The same page in euros on 3 January 2026 (Internet Archive): Custom was €37.40 list (€29.90 in year one).

Three things are new, beyond the price:

  • “Agentic AI” is now part of the Custom plan description. Odoo positions its new AI agents next to Odoo Studio, so AI-heavy use cases point you towards Custom. See our Odoo AI guide for what the AI features actually do.
  • A Light User licence (€7.90 per month in Germany) for employees who only need HR self-service — leave, expenses, attendance, appraisals — plus planning, logging into a Point of Sale session, read-only Knowledge and basic logistics tasks.
  • The Standard plan did not move. The gap between Standard and Custom is now much wider, which makes choosing the right plan more valuable than ever.

Implementation, Odoo.sh hosting and custom development come on top of licences — see our Odoo implementation cost guide for the full budget picture.

Things to consider before your next renewal

1. Check whether you really need the Custom plan

Odoo moves a database to Custom automatically when you install Studio or add a second company. Custom is also required for the external API, custom modules, Odoo.sh and on-premise hosting. If you only switched to Custom for a couple of Studio fields or a second company you no longer use, going back to Standard can halve your licence cost. Our Odoo Studio vs custom development guide explains the trade-offs.

2. Budget for the end of the first-year discount

Odoo’s introductory price only covers the users you order initially, for 12 months. Year two moves to the list price, and users added later are billed at list price. After this increase, the step up at renewal is larger than many teams expect — we covered why in how to optimize Odoo subscription costs.

3. Move occasional users to Light User or portal access

Warehouse staff who only check stock, employees who only submit leave and expenses, or shop staff who only open a POS session may not need a full licence. Customers and vendors who only use the portal are free. A user audit is usually the fastest saving.

4. Pay yearly, and read your renewal quotation

Monthly billing costs around 25% more per user than yearly billing on both plans. Existing subscribers typically see new prices at renewal rather than mid-term, so check your renewal date and confirm the exact figure on your renewal quote. Our Odoo contract renewal guide walks through what to review.

5. Plan Odoo 20 and hosting together

If you are planning an upgrade to Odoo 20, decide your hosting at the same time: Odoo Online, Odoo.sh or on-premise. The plan you need follows from that choice — compare them in Odoo Online vs Odoo.sh vs on-premise, and see our Odoo migration service if you are moving versions.

6. Compare Community Edition honestly

Odoo Community has no licence fee, but you lose Studio, the Enterprise-only apps, Odoo’s hosting and official support, and you pay for hosting and maintenance yourself. For some teams with in-house developers it is cheaper; for most it is not. See Odoo Community vs Enterprise.

Frequently Asked Questions

Did Odoo increase its prices in 2026?

Yes. The yearly list price of the Custom plan rose by about 31% in the USA ($46.70 to $61.00 per user/month), 20% in euro markets such as Germany (€37.40 to €44.90) and 24% in Pakistan ($10.80 to $13.40). The Standard plan and One App Free did not change.

Is the Odoo Standard plan more expensive now?

No. Standard is still $31.10 per user/month (yearly) in the USA, €24.90 in Germany and $7.25 in Pakistan, with the first-year discount still available for new users in the USA and Germany.

When did the Odoo price increase happen?

Archived copies of odoo.com show the US Custom price changing between late December 2025 and 9 January 2026. The euro and Pakistan increases were visible on odoo.com in September 2026, the week Odoo 20 was announced at Odoo Experience.

What is the Odoo Light User licence?

A lower-cost licence (€7.90 per month in Germany) for employees who only need HR self-service such as leave, expenses, attendance and appraisals, plus planning, POS login, read-only Knowledge and basic logistics tasks.

How can I reduce my Odoo subscription cost after the increase?

Check whether you need the Custom plan at all, pay yearly instead of monthly, move occasional users to Light User or portal access, and review your renewal quotation before signing. Buying through a partner such as Mediod can also lower the price.

Every active internal user in Odoo directly impacts your monthly software bill. Conducting a periodic user audit allows you to reclaim unused licenses, reassign roles to free Portal access, and eliminate license bloat prior to your annual subscription renewal.

Use this operational checklist to perform a full backend user audit across your organization.

1. Export & Inventory All Active Users:Prerequisite: Settings Access (Access Rights Administrator).

Navigate to Settings > Users & Companies > Users in your Odoo database. Filter by Internal Users and export the list to CSV/Excel with the following fields:

  • Name, Login / Email
  • Access Rights / Groups
  • Last Connection Date (latest_execution_date or connection logs)
  • Created On date

2. Identify & Archive Inactive or Dormant Accounts:Target: Zero login activity in past 60–90 days.

Filter your exported sheet by Last Connection Date:

  • No activity > 90 days: Contact line managers to confirm offboarding status. If departed or no longer needing backend access, Archive the user immediately.
  • Generic / Shared Accounts: Identify accounts like sales@company.com or warehouse1. Convert shared credentials into distinct named users or move shared operations to public/portal workflows to prevent compliance issues.
  • Note: Archiving a user preserves all historical records, chatter comments, and document audit trails while freeing up a paid backend slot.

3. Reclassify Operational Roles to Free Portal Access:Target: Staff needing read-only or self-service access.

Odoo Portal Users are 100% free and do not count toward your paid internal license count. Audit current internal users against these operational rules:

  • Contractors & External Vendors: Should be converted to Portal Users with access to Purchase Orders, Invoices, and Task Tracking.
  • Field Staff & Light Requesters: Employees who only submit expense reports, request time off, or check project status can often be shifted to Portal or self-service interfaces rather than full backend internal accounts.
  • Customers / B2B Clients: Ensure client contacts are strictly set to Portal / Contact access and not accidentally created as internal users.

4. Consolidate Administrator & API Service Accounts:Target: System integration & service endpoints.

  • Review third-party API integrations (e.g., e-commerce connectors, shipping integrations, custom external apps).
  • If an integration requires an internal user login, evaluate whether API keys can be grouped under a single dedicated system integration account rather than maintaining separate paid licenses for each secondary connector.

5. Adjust Odoo Subscription User Count:Final Action: Lock in savings with Odoo / Partner.

Archiving users in your Odoo database stops internal access, but your billing user count must be adjusted separately on your subscription contract:

  • Log in to your account portal at odoo.com/my/subscription.
  • Update your active user count to match your newly audited total prior to your upcoming contract renewal window.
  • If purchasing through Mediod Consulting, send your revised active user count to your dedicated account consultant to update your subscription agreement.

Quick Reference Matrix: Internal vs. Portal User

User TypeBilling ImpactKey CapabilitiesBest For
Internal UserPaidFull access to backend menus, CRUD operations on core models, Studio customizations.Daily operational staff, managers, accountants, sales reps.
Portal UserFree ($0)Restricted frontend portal view, view/pay invoices, submit tickets, track project tasks.Customers, suppliers, contractors, external stakeholders.

As an official Odoo Silver Partner, Mediod Consulting acts as an intermediary and strategic advisor between businesses and Odoo S.A. Rather than treating annual contract renewals as a routine administrative task, Mediod helps organizations audit usage, right-size infrastructure, and structure long-term licensing agreements to protect against unnecessary cost creep.

Mediod Consulting assists companies through four key phases of the renewal cycle:

1. Pre-Renewal Usage & License Auditing

Before entering contract discussions, Mediod conducts an internal system audit to identify hidden cost drivers:

  • Active User Right-Sizing: Uncovering inactive backend accounts or reclassifying light operational roles (such as suppliers, field staff, or client requesters) to free Portal User access, reducing total paid user counts.
  • Standard vs. Custom Plan Alignment: Evaluating whether your organization truly requires Odoo’s Custom Plan (required for Studio, multi-company setups, external APIs, or custom hosting) or if your database can be streamlined onto the lower-cost Standard Plan.

2. Strategic Contract Structuring

Mediod helps structure contract terms to minimize rate fluctuations:

  • Multi-Year Rate Locks: Assisting businesses in negotiating multi-year commitments (e.g., 3-to-5-year contracts) prior to major upgrade cycles or regional price adjustments. This locks in baseline user rates and protects against annual renewal increases.
  • Co-Terming & Add-On Alignments: Structuring user expansion seats and secondary module licenses under a unified, co-termed renewal date so mid-year additions don’t trigger unexpected pro-rated charges or multi-invoice confusion.

3. Partner-Assisted Advocacy & Co-Negotiation

As an accredited partner, Mediod works directly alongside Odoo’s official account managers:

  • Tiered & Volume Discounting: Leveraging partner ecosystem channels to advocate for volume-based pricing or retaining grandfathered promotional rates for growing teams.
  • Hosting & Infrastructure Optimization: Helping evaluate hosting costs (Odoo Online vs. Odoo.sh vs. self-hosted cloud on AWS/DigitalOcean) to ensure you aren’t overpaying for server resources or staging environments.

4. Hybrid Architecture Advisory (Community vs. Enterprise)

For companies facing steep enterprise license scaling costs, Mediod provides architectural options:

  • Selective Hybrid Deployment: Advising on whether certain non-critical modules can be offloaded to high-quality, open-source Odoo Community Association (OCA) tools or third-party marketplace apps, keeping your core Enterprise user footprint lean and cost-effective.

“How much does Odoo implementation cost?” is the question we get asked first, and the one we’re least able to answer with a single number — not because we’re dodging it, but because the honest answer genuinely depends on scope that varies enormously from one business to the next.

Why there’s no fixed Odoo implementation price

Odoo itself is priced predictably — a per-user subscription for Enterprise, or free if you self-host the Community edition. Implementation is different. It’s a services engagement, and its cost tracks the actual work required: how many applications you’re deploying, how much your processes diverge from Odoo’s standard configuration, how much historical data needs to move, how many other systems you’re integrating with, and how much training your team needs before go-live.

Two businesses buying the same number of Odoo licenses can end up with very different implementation costs. A single-location retailer running Sales, Inventory, and Accounting with clean product data is a much smaller project than a multi-entity manufacturer migrating fifteen years of transaction history from a legacy ERP while integrating three warehouse systems.

The factors that actually drive cost

We usually walk clients through these in a discovery call before quoting anything, because guessing at scope before understanding it produces bad numbers in both directions:

  • Number of users and applications. More users and more Odoo apps mean more configuration surface area, though this scales sub-linearly — a ten-app rollout isn’t ten times the cost of a one-app rollout, because a lot of the underlying setup (chart of accounts, security, base configuration) is shared.
  • Business process complexity. A workflow that maps cleanly onto Odoo’s standard Sales → Delivery → Invoice flow costs less to implement than one with multiple approval stages, non-standard pricing rules, or industry-specific compliance steps.
  • Data migration. Clean, well-structured source data migrates quickly. Data spread across spreadsheets, an aging legacy system with years of inconsistent entry, or multiple disconnected tools takes real time to extract, clean, and validate before it ever touches Odoo.
  • Customization. Configuration is included in a standard implementation; genuine customization — Odoo Studio work, custom fields, automated actions, or custom development — is additional scope, priced separately because it’s genuinely additional work.
  • Integrations. Connecting Odoo to an ecommerce platform, a payment provider, or another business system is real engineering work, and the cost depends on whether a maintained connector already exists or a custom integration has to be built.
  • Training and support. A team that’s used Odoo before, or a similar ERP, needs less training time than a team moving off spreadsheets for the first time.

What’s included in a typical implementation quote

When we scope a project, the estimate covers business requirements analysis, business process mapping, Odoo configuration, data migration, integration work, testing, user training, and go-live support. It does not typically include the ongoing Odoo subscription itself (that’s billed separately, direct from Odoo or through your partner), or work explicitly scoped as post-go-live support, which is usually a separate arrangement once the system is live and stable.

Why the cheapest quote isn’t always the cheapest project

We’ve seen implementations that came in under budget on paper and cost far more once real usage exposed gaps — a skipped process-mapping step that surfaces as a broken workflow three weeks after go-live, or migrated data that wasn’t actually validated and needs manual correction for months afterward. A lower initial quote that skips testing or trims data validation isn’t cheaper; it’s a cost that gets paid later, usually at a worse time, with the business already running on the new system.

Frequently asked questions

Is Odoo cheaper than SAP or NetSuite to implement?

Generally, yes, for comparable scope — Odoo’s modular pricing and configuration-first approach tend to keep implementation costs lower than legacy enterprise ERPs, though the real comparison depends on the specific business requirements being scoped.

Does Odoo Community cost less to implement than Enterprise?

Community has no license fee, but implementation labor is comparable or sometimes higher, since some Enterprise-only apps and features that would otherwise save configuration time aren’t available.

Can I get a fixed-price Odoo implementation quote?

Yes, once scope is defined through a proper requirements analysis. A fixed price given before that analysis is a guess, not a quote.

If you want an actual number rather than a range, our Odoo Implementation Services page has more detail on our process, or you can get in touch and we’ll scope your specific requirements.

“How much will this cost?” is usually the first question in any custom development conversation, and it’s a fair one — but the honest answer depends on factors that aren’t always obvious upfront. Here’s what actually drives cost.

The factors that matter most

Scope depth is the biggest driver — a module adding a new, mostly independent record type is far cheaper than one that changes core behavior in Sales, Inventory, or Accounting, because core-behavior changes require more careful testing to avoid breaking existing functionality. Integration complexity matters almost as much: connecting to an external system with a clean, documented API is cheaper than one with a messy or undocumented interface. And data volume and performance requirements add cost when a customization needs to handle high transaction volumes efficiently rather than working correctly at a small scale.

What tends to get underestimated

Testing and edge-case handling is the most commonly underestimated piece of custom development cost. It’s straightforward to build something that works for the happy path; it takes real additional time to handle what happens when data is missing, when two users edit the same record simultaneously, or when an integration partner’s API returns an unexpected response. Skipping this is how customizations end up causing problems months after go-live rather than being caught in development.

Ongoing cost beyond the initial build

Custom development isn’t a one-time expense — it needs maintenance across future Odoo version upgrades, and if requirements evolve (they usually do), further development to keep pace. We generally recommend factoring in an ongoing maintenance budget, not just the initial build cost, when deciding whether a customization is worth it.

How to get a more accurate estimate

The clearer the scope going into a development conversation, the more accurate the estimate — vague requirements (“we need better reporting”) produce vague, often low-ball estimates that expand once real requirements surface during development. Documenting the specific business process, the exact data involved, and what “done” looks like before requesting a quote leads to estimates that hold up better once work actually starts.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is custom development priced by the hour or by project?

Both models exist — fixed-project pricing works well for clearly scoped requirements, while hourly or time-and-materials pricing suits work where the scope may evolve as you go.

Does customization cost scale with company size?

Not directly — cost tracks the complexity of the requirement and the depth of integration with existing Odoo behavior, not headcount. A 10-person company with a complex integration need can face a larger custom development cost than a 200-person company with a simple one.

How much should we budget for ongoing maintenance of a custom module?

This varies by module complexity, but it’s worth planning for review and potential rework at each major Odoo version upgrade, roughly annually, rather than assuming a build-once-done-forever cost structure.

For small businesses looking to streamline operations, Odoo Enterprise offers a scalable, per-user subscription model. Unlike traditional ERP platforms that charge per application, Odoo provides access to its entire suite of business apps under a single user fee.For a small business, Odoo Enterprise usually costs between $5,000 and $12,000 for the first year. This estimate includes software licenses for up to 20 users and standard implementation services.

The actual price depends heavily on four key factors: your location, your user count, whether you need software customization, and how much help you need setting up the system.

Odoo Enterprise Pricing Breakdown

1. Software License Fees (SaaS Subscription)

Odoo uses a per-user, per-month pricing model, typically billed annually. Users are defined as internal employees who need to log in to the backend; your customers or suppliers using the portal are free.

Odoo offers two main paid plans. The correct plan for a small business depends on whether you have standard workflows or need complex customization.

FactorStandard PlanCustom Plan
Typical Cost$31 to $39 per user/month$61 to $76 per user/month
Best ForSmall businesses with standard processes that don’t need custom code.Businesses needing multi-company management, external API access, or heavy customization.
App AccessIncludes all Odoo apps.Includes all Odoo apps.
HostingHosted free on Odoo Online (managed cloud).Choice of Odoo Online, Odoo.sh (PaaS for custom dev), or On-Premise.
CustomizationNo custom modules or Odoo Studio.Includes Odoo Studio (no-code tool) and supports custom code.

Note: Pricing is location-based and subject to change. Rates in some regions like APAC are significantly lower (starting around $9–$24 USD), so always verify the rates for your specific country.

2. Mandatory One-Time Implementation Costs

For a real ERP deployment, you cannot look at license fees alone. Implementation is almost always the largest part of your first-year budget.

For a small business (defined as 1–20 users), estimated implementation costs range from $3,000 to $15,000 one-time. These fees cover:

  • System Configuration: Setting up charts of accounts, tax rules, and user roles.
  • Data Migration: Importing your legacy data (customers, products, open invoices). This is often the most variable and underestimated cost line item.
  • Module Setup: Configuring workflows for sales, inventory, accounting, and eCommerce.
  • Training: Enabling “super-users” to run the system.

3. Total First-Year Investment Example

To give you a realistic scenario, here is a budget breakdown for a hypothetical 10-user small business located in a standard pricing region (e.g., US/EU), using the Standard Plan and basic implementation help.

Disclaimer: These are general estimates based on available data from 2026. Actual costs vary by project complexity, data quality, and the chosen implementation partner.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Odoo Enterprise expensive for a small business?

Compared to traditional enterprise ERP platforms, no — Odoo’s per-app, per-user pricing model is specifically designed to be accessible to small and mid-sized businesses. A $5,000–$12,000 first-year investment is modest next to what a comparable SAP or Dynamics deployment would cost.

Can I reduce my first-year Odoo costs?

Yes — starting with the Standard plan instead of Custom, scoping implementation tightly to your must-have modules first, and working with a partner who can accurately estimate data migration effort up front (the most commonly underestimated cost) all help control first-year spend.

Does the license fee include support?

Odoo’s own subscription includes basic bug-fix support and upgrades. Ongoing functional support, configuration changes, and training are typically handled by your implementation partner — see our Odoo support & maintenance services.
